A Tribute to the Memory of Prof. Dr. Erol Güngör
Synopsis
The scientific aspect, ideas and thoughts of the late Prof. Dr. Erol GÜNGÖR have been evaluated and discussed in various environments so far. It will continue to be evaluated from now on. In general, almost everyone is in consensus about his command of our cultural values, his superior ability to analyze events, his understandable and fluent style. With these aspects, Erol GÜNGÖR is better understood as time passes.
Especially in the sixties and seventies, among the various intellectual currents that the country was in, Erol GÜNGÖR, who established a throne in the hearts of Turkish nationalists with his ideas and thoughts, as the Rector of our University since August 1982, we begin to know him as an administrator. In this short period of nine months of administration, we witness that he was not only a man of science and thought but also an excellent administrator. His unifying, gathering, truthfulness and honesty were among his unforgettable features that attracted everyone's attention.
In an environment where the concept of university was not looked upon favorably due to the pre-eighty events, Erol Hodja endeared our University to the public in a short time and succeeded in an important job such as the people of Konya embracing the University with all their strength. This was due to his power of integration and understanding with the people. In this way, the roof of the University was formed with the cooperation of the people and institutions of Konya, when there was not yet a proper budget and physical spaces for the University to settle.
Erol Hoca's presence in Konya caused many young scholars from all over the country, who had a love and zeal for study, to rush to Konya. They joined Selçuk University without thinking about the conditions, advantages and disadvantages, even though the conditions were not very favorable. This was due to the respect and trust in the late Professor Erol's personality, knowledge, wisdom and administrative qualities. He did not push people away, he did not push people away, he did not lose; on the contrary, he always won.
The thoughts, ideas and administrative understanding of my late Rector Prof. Dr. Erol GÜNGÖR will be a torch that illuminates our way forward.
One of the important units of our university, THE INSTITUTE OF TURKISH PRESIDENTIAL STUDIES, has prepared the book in order to keep alive the memory of the late PROF. DR. EROL GÜNGÖR on the 15th anniversary of his death by showing an example of gratitude. I would like to congratulate those concerned for this auspicious initiative and wish mercy to the deceased on the 15th anniversary of his death.
